Carboxymethyl cellulose is the substitution product of carboxymethyl group of cellulose. According to its molecular weight or degree of substitution, it can be a completely soluble or insoluble polymer. The latter can be used as a weak acid type cation exchanger to separate neutral or basic proteins. Carboxymethyl cellulose can form high viscosity colloid, solution, viscosity, thickening, flow, emulsification dispersion, shaping, water retention, protective colloid, film forming, acid resistance, salt resistance, suspension and other characteristics, and is harmless in physiology, so it is widely used in food, medicine, daily chemical, oil, paper, textile, construction and other fields.
The former belongs to the latter.
