Difference Between Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose And Carboxymethyl Cellulose

CMC is the abbreviation of carboxymethyl cellulose. It is a natural product derived from cellulose. It has many advantages that natural rubber and grain slurry do not have. It is soluble in water and can significantly increase the viscosity of solution. It has the functions of thickening, dispersing, emulsifying, suspending, stabilizing and protecting colloid

The main chemical reactions of CMC are the alkalization reaction of cellulose and alkali to alkali cellulose and the etherification reaction of alkali cellulose and monochloroacetic acid.

Alkalization: [C6H7O2 (OH) 3] n+nNaOH → [C6H7O2 (OH) 2ONa] n+nH2O

Etherification: [C6H7O2 (OH) 2ONa] n+nClCH2COONA → [C6H7O2 (OH) 2OCH2COONA] n+nNaCl

From the above reaction, I think the owner should understand that sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is not introduced on the basis of carboxymethyl cellulose. In fact, (sodium) alkali cellulose has been generated in the process of alkalization, and then it is synthesized by introducing carboxymethyl groups.

They are actually the same thing.
